PXA3MXSP Plate exchanger aluminium 3-way mix swimming pool
These air handling units are installed either double stacked or side by side. The warm extract air and the cool fresh air are separated by thin plates. The plates allow for the transfer of energy to warm the fresh air without allowing for the transmission of dirt, odours, moisture, or bacteria. This unit includes three sets of dampers, one for the fresh air, one for the exhaust air, and a mixing damper between the two. The mix can be adjusted to suit the building’s changing needs, making this AHU well suited to both heating and cooling recovery in the winter and summer respectively. The specific heat output capacity of this plate will depend on the temperature difference between the two air streams.
Recirculating air is an ideal method to conserve energy, but it can carry the risk of allowing contaminants to build up in the pool environment. There is also a risk that too much warmth will be extracted, making the poolside uncomfortable for visitors. By using one of our specially designed AHUs, you can ensure that air recirculation is carefully controlled, and the results monitored. Ideally recirculation should be restricted to periods of low occupation or when the pool is closed and covered to prevent humidity from being lost.

Heat recovery efficiency
The correct efficiency for a swimming pool area will depend on the specifics of your site and regulations such as the Eco Design Commission Regulation (EU) No 1253/2014 which states that heat recovery efficiency should not fall below 73%. Depending on the conditions, heat recovery efficiency using one of our units can be higher than 90%, ensuring you’re well within regulations and that your building is energy efficient.
When conditions are right in the outside air, the ambient temperature might be suitable for free cooling. The mixing damper will close, and the system can use fresh air for optimal efficiency.
Ancillary items
We can provide additional features to ensure your AHU works perfectly for your swimming pool.
Filtration
The correct level of filtration will help reduce the level of pollutants and increase the percentage of oxygen to raise the overall quality of the air.
Direct heating
Heat can be provided via a gas-fired sealed combustion chamber or electric air heater batteries. This will provide warmth directly to the air.
Indirect heating and cooling
Coils can utilise hot water or steam for heating, or DX refrigerant gas for cooling. Heat pumps can also be employed for the same purpose.
Dehumidification in summer
The pool hall is dehumidified using outside air. The outside air bypasses the Recuperator when no heating is required.
Dehumidification in warmer temperatures
The pool hall is dehumidified using outside air and the recirculation damper is closed. The outside air bypass damper opens proportionally enabling partial heart recovery.
Dehumidification in winter
The pool hall can be dehumidified by introducing outside air. When the pool is in use, a minimum proportion of outside air must be introduced to meet hygiene and air quality requirements. The outside air proportion is continuously adjusted according to the actual evaporation rate and the moisture content of the return air.
Intelligent energy controls
Enhance your control over your pool’s heating and cooling with intelligent energy controls. We supply these alongside your air handling unit and will tailor them to meet your site’s unique needs. You’ll be able to monitor the air supply, return air quality, and CO2 concentration to deliver the clean, conditioned, and temperature-controlled air while retaining energy efficiency.
Net zero carbon
Ensure your building is eco-conscious by mitigating its carbon emissions. Pool areas require a lot of energy to keep comfortable, so make sure you use our equipment to recapture as much energy as possible to reduce your environmental impact, without ever sacrificing efficacy, hygiene, or comfort.
Factory acceptance test
A factory acceptance test is a standard part of our process that takes place after manufacture at our factory. Site acceptance tests are also available, taking place at your location. We will ensure that your new AHU will meet the air requirements of your pool, function as designed, and is ready to use. All of the documentation and reports will be accessible to you using a secure password through our client portal, including:
- Completed FAT protocol
- Installation, Operation and Maintenance (IOM) manual
- Recommended spare parts lists
- Certificates of compliance
- As-built certified drawings
- Air tightness certificate
- Filter DOP certificate
