What is an air handling unit?

An air handling unit is a series of components mounted in one large assembly that provides ventilation, filtration, temperature, regulation, and air conditioning to a building. At ECE UK we offer an enormous range of bespoke AHUs tailored to increase your indoor air quality, which is critical to comfort, health, and performance at your site. Typical HVAC units do not deliver fresh, clean, oxygenated air nor do they allow you to control the air quality. Our custom designed and hand manufactured AHUs units deliver conditioned air of a high quality that improves wellbeing and health.

Health and wellbeing

Maintaining a fresh air supply and circulating out stale air is proven to be vital to the comfort of guests and the productivity of staff. In addition to this, keeping the space well-ventilated can ensure that harmful pollutants. If harmful elements are allowed to build-up, it can cause sick building syndrome. This is a situation in which the environment of a site is harmful to human health leading to frequent illness and lost productivity. Our sophisticated filtration systems are customised to meet the exact needs of your site and help keep dust, smoke, and even Coronavirus particles out of the air. You air handling unit will provide year-round benefits to your site and quickly become essential to the day-to-day wellbeing of your site.

Air handling unit components

Each air handling unit is created uniquely by our design engineers. However, many of our units will have some combination of the following components. The regular inspection and replacement of these are essential to proper maintenance of your AHU. You can purchase additional items as needed from our online store, Anything Air Handling.

Filters

These remove contaminants from the air. Different filters can be installed to target different contaminants.

Coils

Coils are an essential component to controlling the temperature in a site and come in a range of materials.

Fans

These move air into and out of a room, through the duct work, and into the main body of the AHU itself.

Dampers

The inverse of fans, these regulate or entirely shut off the air that is moving through the air handling unit.

Controls

Easy to operate and sophisticated electronic devices that allow a user to monitor and control the system.

Energy recovery devices

Efficient machinery that reduces waste by using the energy from air being removed to condition incoming air.

Intelligent energy controls

At ECE UK we always pressing forward with the latest developments and technology. We install intelligent energy controls alongside your air handling unit to give you a sophisticated means to manage your unit. You’ll be able to monitor the air quality, keep an eye on CO2 concentration, and ensure your AHU is working at optimal energy efficiency. Our intelligent energy controls are installed at the same time as the rest of your AHU and can be customised right there on site to meet your building’s unique fresh air requirements.

Supplying your air handling unit

We understand that every site has its unique requirements. Our expert installers provide air handling units in a variety of different forms, depending on how much building and assembly needs to take place on site. No matter how complex access might be at your site, our installation service will ensure that your AHU is fitted promptly to your specifications.

Component form

We will dismantle each section of the AHU and package the components together. Then when they arrive at your site our team can efficiently assemble and install the unit.

Dry built

The AHU will be delivered to the site in multiple sections. These sections can be fully assembled, or dismantled further to components if access is difficult.

Modular sections

We can deliver an air handling unit to your site in larger pieces that only need to be bolted together and sealed.

Fully assembled

Every section of the unit is already bolted, sealed, and mounted on a base frame. Our site operatives will then transport the AHU and install it without any dismantling or re-assembly on site.
